Evelyn Blomgren, 85, of Rock Island, died Wed., Jan. 31, 2007 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Private burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island/Milan Booster Club. Evelyn Sytsma was born May 21, 1921, on the family farm in Mahaska county, Iowa. She married Robert C. Blomgren, June 14, 1943 in Munterville, IA. He died June 10, 1980. Mrs. Blomgren began her teaching career at the Fairiew School,a one room school house in Old White City, IA. She later worked as a substitute teacher for the Rock island/Milan schools and then taught at Sacred Heart School, Rock island. She retired from Montgomery Elevator, Moline. She was a member of the Rock Island/Milan Booster Club, and a charter member of St. James Lutheran Church, Rock island. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her home.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Judy Blomgren, Rock Island, daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Larry Mortier, Raleigh, NC.; grandchildren (and spouses), Kris (Mark) Vanearwage, Rock Island, Dori (Rob) Garro, Janesville, WI., Nicole Mortier, Memphis, TN and Joe Mortier, Chicago,; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Taryn, Donovan, and Griffin. brothers, Rodney, Stanley, Forrest, and Danny Sytsma, and sisters, Bonnie Sedrel, Bernice Slycord and Isabelle Alexander. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Albert Sytsma and sister, Delores Gerara.
