Son of Daniel Francis Cummins and Sarah Samantha Green. Edward married Helen A. Tabor on 17 April 1915. A daughter, H. Natalie, was born to the couple in 1916. He completed his WWI draft registration in Chicago, listing that he was married with a child. The family was enumerated in the 1920 census of Chicago. At some point, the family moved to 3829 Wyoming street in St. Louis, Missouri. Helen fell from a chair while hanging a picture at their home in St. Louis, and died at a St. Louis hospital 14 days later, on 9 November 1929.

In the 1930 census, Edward was listed as a lodger in Springfield, Illinois, while daughter Natalie was listed as a student at "Convent of the Sacred Heart". He was listed in the Springfield city directories of the early 1930's, with his second wife, Beulah Grace; she was the widow of Cecil Stanley Smith, who died in Springfield during 1928. Edward was again found in Chicago though for the 1940 US census and his WWII draft registration. Other possible sightings in city directories include Indiana and Kansas, but these have not been confirmed.
