Benjamin Metcalf, s. of Ebenezer Metcalf and Hannah Abell, b. Mar. 12, 1704/5 of record at Norwich. Conn. He d. Oct. 10, 1777 (g.s. record) at what is now Bozrah. Conn. The area that became the Town of Bozrah was first settled as part of the original "nine-miles-square" of the Town of Norwich, New London County, Conn. as well as part of the Parish of West Farms. The area became its own parish, called "New Concord" or the "Fourth Society of Norwich," in 1737. Bozrah was separately incorporated in 1786.

On Oct. 26, 1726 at Lebanon, Conn., Benjamin m. Sarah Abell, dau. of Capt. John Abell and Rebecca Sluman, b. Mar 2, 1704/5 of record at Lebanon, Conn. She d. Apr 27, 1781 also at present-day Bozrah, Conn. (g.s. record.) They had the following nine children recorded at Lebanon, Conn.:

• i. Benjamin Metcalf, Jr., b. Sept. 17, 1727, d. Oct. 24, 1777 at Lebanon; m. Feb. 27, 1755 at the Bozrah Cong. Ch., Mary Matoon and had three children recorded at Lebanon.

• ii. Zebulon Metcalf, b. July 11, 1729, d. Apr. 26, 1802 at Piertown, NY; m. 1) Oct. 24, 1754 at the Bozrah Cong. Ch., Lydia Bourn (q.v. Bourne), dau. of Thomas Bourn (q.v.) and Deborah Tracy, b. Sept. 27, 1734 of record at Lebanon, Conn. She d. July 30, 1779 (g.s. record). They had eight children per the Metcalf Gen., but only the four oldest are of birth record at Lebanon. Lydia's mother was the gr. granddau. of Stephen Tracy and Triphosa Lee, the former who arrived at Plymouth, Mass. in 1623 on the Little Ann. Zebulon m. 2) after July 1779, Mary Abell, widow of Jared Clark, dau. of Daniel Abell and Sarah Crane, b. Feb. 24, 1735/6 of record at Lebanon, Conn. She d. Dec. 25, 1813 at Cooperstown, NY. She had nine children at Lebanon by her 1st husband.

• iii. Abel Metcalf, b. Jan. 13, 1731/2, d. June 9, 1790 at Lebanon, Conn.; m. Aug. 12, 1755 of record at Lebanon, Abigail Thorpe (not Throop as often stated), by whom he had nine children recorded at Lebanon.

• iv. Lydia Metcalf, b. Mar. 30, 1734; m. Sept. 3, 1754 at the Bozrah Cong. Ch., Stephen Lee, s. of Stephen Lee and Mercy Bentley, b. Mar. 2, 1729/30 of record at Lebanon, Conn. Not traced further.

• v. Dr. Andrew Metcalf, b. Dec. 5, 1736, d. July 1, 1828 at Lebanon, Conn.; m. Sept. 20, 1758 of record at Lebanon, Zerviah Hyde, dau. of Samuel Hyde and Priscilla Bradford, b. Dec. 15, 1740 of record at Lebanon. She d. Jan. 4, 1829 at Lebanon. They had at least four children, but only three are of actual birth record at Lebanon. Zerviah's mother was a gr. granddau. of Gov. William Bradford of the 1620 Mayflower passage and Plymouth Colony.

• vi. Sarah Metcalf, b. Dec. 10, 1738; m. Oct. 6, 1763 of record at Lebanon, Nathan Lee, the younger brother of Sarah's sister Lydia's husband, b. Aug. 23, 1738 of record at Lebanon, Conn. Two children of record at Lebanon.

• vii. Ebenezer Metcalf, b. Dec. 27, 1741, d. in infancy Apr. 11, 1742.

• viii. Rebecca Metcalf, b. June 3, 1744; m. May 29, 1766 of record at Lebanon, Conn., William Alden, s. of Andrew Alden and Lydia Stanford, b. Oct. 21, 1731 of record at Lebanon, Conn. William's father was the grandson of John Alden, of the 1620 Mayflower passage, and his subsequent wife, Priscilla Mullins, who was not on the Mayflower. Rebecca and William had six children of record at Lebanon.
