WILLIAM HOLMES SHREVE, age 77, resident of 111 Main St., Elkins, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25 in the Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past several months. Mr. Shreve was born November 19, 1899 at Hall, W.Va., a son of the late Tupper Newlon and Texie Jane Montoney Shreve. He was married to the former Nellie G. James who survives at 111 Main Street. Also surviving are five daughters and one step-daughter; Mrs. Wanda Harris of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Arnol (Bobbie) Lamb, Elkins; Mrs. Mary Alice Johnson, Morgantown; Miss Sophia Marie Shreve and Miss Patricia Ann Shreve both at home; Karen Sue Isner of Randolph, Ohio; seven sons, Paul Shreve of Florida; Arthur Shreve, California; Robert Shreve, Buckhannon; Wilson Shreve, Grafton; Timothy Lee Shreve, Nashville, Tenn., William James Shreve and Stephen Thomas Shreve, both of Elkins. One sister, Mrs. Mary Ptomey and eleven grandchildren also survive. One brother, Robert Shreve preceded him in death. Mr. Shreve was a Protestant by faith and a graduate of Wake Forest University with a Ph.D. in Latin. He taught school for a number of years, was a member of the National Geographic Society and retired in 1972 from the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad as a conductor. At the resut (Sic) of Mr. Shreve his body has been willed to the Anatomical Disiion (sic) service was conducted from the John W. Lohr Funeral Home. Logan Banner December 1, 1977
