The third son of Henry Pendleton and Mary Bishop Taylor. He was chief Magistrate of Culpeper county in 1765 and was the first to sign the protest against the Stamp Act from that county. Served throughout the Revolution in the first continental line and was granted 5,000 acres for his services. Was prominent in St. Mark's Parish and was one of the founders of the town of Fairfax, now known as Culpeper. In 1740 he married his cousin, Elizabeth, daughter of Major Samuel Clayton of "Catalpa" and they had seven children. Henry; William; Nathaniel; Philip; Mary; Elizabeth; Susannah.
