Harold Eckhart, 89, a resident of Wickenburg for 25 years following his retirement from banking in Chicago, died Saturday morning in his home.

Born in DeSota, Wisconsin, Mr. Eckhart, was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.

During his banking career, Mr. Eckhart was Senior Vice president of the Trust Department of Harris Trust and Savings Bank in Chicago, and was nationally-prominent in his field. He was past president of the American Trust Association, and a member of the Illinois Bar Assoc. and the Union League Club of Chicago.

Following his retirement to Arizona, he was active in community service, and worked on both state and national levels for better government. He was the leader in planning, financing and building the Wickenburg Community Hospital, and was recognized by Rotary International for service above self. He was one of the earlier members of the Desert Caballeros of Wickenburg.

Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. William (Robin) Kleniz of Phoenix; his step-daughter Mrs. James Harris of Alexandria, La.; two sons, Alan of Wickenburg and Gerald of St. Charles, Ill.; his stepson, John Meyer of Merigold, Miss.; eight grandchildren and eight step grandchildren.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Wickenburg Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Wickenburg.
Interment is Tuesday at Wickenburg Cemetery.

To the people of Wickenburg – Harold Eckhart was buried Tuesday from St. Anthony's Church. He received his "passport to heaven" by his good deeds. He was satisfied to live unseen, unknown, but unlamented – he did not die.
He was a "giant" among men, intellectually, morally, and as a citizen of Wickenburg, his adapted retirement home.
Without Harold Eckhart, we would not have our Community Hospital.
He was Hospital Board President, financier, architect, guiding light, and solver of knotty problems and government red tape during the 7 years that our hospital was having "labor and financial" pains.
Still with us, Dr. F. Bralliar, Sky Thurber, Pegggy Bratton, Ewald Stein, Dan Snyder and myself, mourn Harold's passing and we want others to know the great services Harold rendered Wickenburg. A monument to his memory is our hospital. (Mary Jones)
