Samuel R. Veronesi
PITTSFIELD — Samuel R. Veronesi, 86, of Pittsfield, passed away Feb. 14, 2003, at the Chase Memorial Nursing, Home, New Berlin.
He was born May 3, 1916, in Smithton, Pa., the son of Samuel and Julia (Beck) Veronesi.
He married Marion Spencer on Nov. 18, 1945. She died July 18, 1999.
He spent his childhood in the Pittsfield area. He was a graduate of New Berlin High School.
He was a poultry farmer and postmaster in New Berlin.
He served in the U.S. Army T4 443rd AAA Battalion 36th Infantry Division for three years during eight campaigns of World War II, including North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He was a member and past master of Phoebus Lodge No. 82 F&AM.
He was a fire commissioner for the Pittsfield Fire District, town supervisor and member of the Otsego County Board of Supervisors and school board member in New Berlin.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna Morrison, Sherburne; one son, Gary Veronesi, San Diego, Calif.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Richard Veronesi, Phoenix.
He was predeceased by one brother, Albert W. Veronesi.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 21, 2003, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles Taylor of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Pittsfield Emergency Squad, New Berlin.
Interment will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery, New Berlin.
