Joe "Sonny" Lewis Ware Baca passed away following a short illness.
Joe was born on February 22, 1941 in Magdalena, NM. The family then relocated to Albuquerque in 1948.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel R. Baca and Marian W. Baca, sister, Cruzita B. Acosta, brother, Daniel R. Baca Jr., grandparents, Teofilo and Sarafina Cabeza de Baca, maternal grandparents, Adolph "Bob" Ware and Cruzita V. Ware, uncles, Heinrich Ware, Schultz Ware, Yoseph Ware, Frank Ware and Alphonso Ware and one of his favorite cousins, Benjamin Ware.
Joe was very proud of all his cousins and friends. Despite the barriers of lifes changes, time and miles, he loved them all very much.
Joe leaves behind one sister, Barbara Baca who will love and cherish him always and brother, Adolph Ware.
Joe was a gifted and talented artist, a meticulous furniture maker and a crossword puzzle whiz. His knowledge in world history and geography left everyone impressed and amazed. Joe enjoyed cooking, 50s music, hunting, horses, learning about old west lawmen, outlaws, watching new and old movie classics. Joe loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and had the sweet pleasure of owning a few in his lifetime. Joe was a wonderful kind, softspoken, intelligent and respectful man and is heartbreakingly and sadly missed.
Joe was a proud member of the Special Forces and served his country bravely and nobly.
Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of nurses, and doctors at the VA oncology/infusion 6th floor wing, and special thanks to Heartland Hospice for their outstanding staff and superb services that they provided for Joe in his final days. Thank you Evelyn and Wanetta, Joe's caregivers.
Joe will be laid to rest at the Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 11:15 a.m. with full military honors.

Tell my sister not to weep for me, And sob with drooping head. When the troops come marching home again, with gold and gallant tread, but look upon them proudly with a calm and steadfast eye. For her brother was a soldier too, And not afraid to die.
