Born and reared near Locust Grove, he was the son of Josiah and Susan Ellen Marshall Hines.
He had lived in Hagerstown for the past 50 years, employed for many years as a bridge builder for the Western Maryland Railway. He retired in 1946.
He was a member of the Keedysville Brethren Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary A (Kretzer) Hines; daughter, Mrs. Juanita Roby, Hagerstown; son, J Markwood Hines, Hagerstown; sister, Mrs. Pearl Wright, Hagerstown; a grandchild and a foster grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Services Sunday at 2 pm at A K Coffman Funeral Home, Rev Richard Summer and Mr. Edward Burger, officiating. Interment in Rest Haven Cemetery.
