Alberta June (Brake) Humbyrd stepped up to heaven on Aug. 7, 2009.
Berta was born Dec. 17, 1930, and spent her childhood in Oregon and Missouri. She moved to Midland in the early 1950s with her former husband, Sam, who passed away in 2008. Together they raised five children.
When her family was grown, she went to work for Hallmark where her customers appreciated her product knowledge and commitment to quality service. She was blessed with musical talent and had a lovely voice. She played piano for her church, and sang with the Midland Chorale for many years. She grew beautiful flower gardens and created works of art with a needle, floss and fabric. She loved to travel the U.S. - New York City was a favorite and frequent destination - and loved to read, especially a good mystery.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life and Grandma Byrd will be dearly missed. Whether it was a holiday, birthday or just a Friday night sleepover with "Grandma Food" for dinner, she made the day special and created happy memories that her grandkids treasure.
Alberta is survived by her children, 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters.
Burial in Midland City Cemetery.
