Andrew was born about 1885. His parentage is unknown. He migrated to the US in 1907.

He married Anna Skubik. They were of either Hungarian or Slovakian extraction. The couple always listed a birthplace of Czechoslovakia on their census records. They had four children: Miro 'Roy' in 1912, Olga in 1914, Rudolph in 1918 and Ivan Andrew in 1921. The first three children were born in New York City.

He was a fur cutter by trade.

The family moved to a farm in Kingwood Twp., Hunterdon Co., New Jersey sometime in the 1920s. It is unknown whether Anna moved with them. She disappeared from the records after the 1920 census.

Andrew husband went to Cleveland, Ohio to work as a machinist on the steam railroad, and he left Roy behind to raise his sister and two brothers as a very young man with the help of a housekeeper.

By 1940 he was back on the farm in Kingwood Twp. with Rudolph.
