David Ewell was a Veteran of WW11 & Korean War, earning 2 Purple Hearts during the Battle of Okinawa. He later served with the American Occupational Forces in Japan. He was released from active duty, but remained in the USMC Reserves.
Mr Ewell attended the University of Tn. in Knoxville, and then returned to his home in Dyer, where he was employed by Dyer Fruit Box Mfg. Company. In Oct., 1950, he was recalled to Active Service and was stationed at Camp Lejeune,N.C. for a year. He was released in 1951, receiving an Honorable discharge.
David and Pansy Arnold Ewell were married on Christmas Day, 1950 and lived in Wilmington, N C for a year. They returned to Dyer, where David again worked at Dyer Fruit Box. He was active in civic affairs,serving as a director in the Farmers and Merchants Bank, partner in Dyer Builders Supply Co. He was a Mason, Lions Club Member and served on the Dyer School Board.
Mr. Ewell died Mar 9,1997, in the house where he was born and lived for most of his life. His funeral was held at the First Presbyterian Church; Rev. Harold O'Bannon officiating.
He is survived by his wife, daughters Carol Ewell Driscoll (husband Greg), Amy Ewell, and son Charley Ewell; grandchildren, Justin Ewell, Melanie Ewell, David and Stephen Driscoll. He also has 3 great-grandchildren.
