Mary McFall was born in Niagara County, NY, August 30, 1834, and died at Milan, Michigan April 9, 1924, aged 89 years, 7 mos. and 9 days. She was one of 13 children born to Cornelius and Catherine McFall and came with them to Michigan in 1837, where they settled near Flat Rock on Swan Creek.
On June 11, 1859 she married Rev. Henry Jones, of Ida, Mich. To this union were born four children: Joseph H. of Ann Arbor; Charles L. of Dexter; Mrs. Frances Keyes of Milan and Edward C. who died in 1891. Her husband passed away at their home in Ida Township April 1, 1874.
She has always resided in Michigan, except six years spent in Tennessee, and two years in Canada. Sixteen years ago, while going down cellar, she fell and broke her hip. From this injury she never recovered and had to use crutches the remainder of her life.
Early in life she was converted to God in meetings held at the Lewis school house, conducted by the minister who later became her husband. Shortly after her conversion she united with the Ida Society of the Free Methodist Church, when that society was organized. Thus she became one of the charter members of the Free Methodist Church in Michigan.
At the time of her death, she was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Milan, where she has held her membership for some years past.
Funeral conducted in the Milan Free Methodist Church Saturday, April 12, 1924 by Rev. R. L. Scamehorn of Detroit, assisted by Rev. W. C. Muffitt of Adrian, and her pastor Rev. L. L. Kelly of Milan. Interment was made in the Sackett cemetery near Monroe, Michigan.
