Margaret Ingalls Cowsar died Saturday evening, Sept. 1, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. A retired teacher and a resident of Baton Rouge, she was 80 and a native of DeRidder. Visitation with Order of the Eastern Star service was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd. Wednesday. Religious services will be in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Thursday, conducted by Brother Mike Rasberry. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Margaret C. and Dr. Carter Waid of Baton Rouge; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Donald R. and Carol C. Cowsar of Savannah, Ga., Harlon W. Sr. and Mildred R. Cowsar of Springfield, and Thomas C. and Wanda Z. Cowsar of Walker; nine grandchildren, James B. and Gordon C. Waid, Lawrence C., Paul E. and Chester Scott Cowsar, Harlon W. II and Timothy I. Cowsar, Meredith C. Metzger and Robert E. Cowsar; and two great-grandchildren, Zackary Cowsar and Lauren Cowsar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester M. Cowsar; sister, Lois Gibson; four brothers, Herbert Ingalls, Wallace Ingalls, Edgar Ingalls and William Ingalls; and grandson, Donald D. Cowsar. She was a graduate of LSU, where she earned bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees in English and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She was a teacher of English at Central High School from 1958 to 1970, and at Tara High School from 1971 to 1979. She was named Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Teacher of 1971. She was a past president of East Baton Rouge Classroom Teachers Association, a past vice president of Louisiana Teachers Association and a past worthy matron of Hope Villa Chapter 77 Order of the Eastern Star.
