Douglas G. Blair, 87, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, in Granbury. Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. Interment: Holly Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Douglas was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Mexia to Granville B. and Abbie Dale Phenny Blair. He was saved and baptized at the Tarrant Road Baptist Church in Fort Worth and later attended the First United Methodist Church in Granbury. In 1944 at age 17, Douglas entered World War II as a Navy Seabee in the 114th Seabee Battalion. They built bridges to get supplies across to the front line and built an airport so planes could land to bring supplies to the battalion. All supplies went to the front line. Half of the 114th Seabee Battalion was in the Battle of the Bulge where many were killed and the other half, his battalion, stayed in Guam. He was a master plumber and owned and operated Consolidated Trucking Co. Douglas was a Shriner and a very active 32nd-degree Mason. He married Willa Dean Archer on Dec. 19, 1959, in Durant, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1999; and a son, Byron Wingo, in 1971. Survivors: Sons, Douglas G. "Dusty" Blair II of Katy and Courtney M. Blair of North Richland Hills; daughters, Stephanee Russell of Breckenridge and Vickie Burns of Azle; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
