Marie Barnett Cope Sands, 90, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at her residence at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin.

Marie was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Nineveh, to Joe and Ruby (Wells) Barnett.

She married James S. Cope on Jan. 1, 1943. He preceded her in passing in 1983. She later married Lester Sands on June 27, 1988. He also preceded her in passing in 2012.

She is survived by one son, Larry James, and wife Linda, Cope of Franklin; grandchildren, Lesley (Tim) Watkins of Bargersville and Lance (Laura) Cope of Franklin; four great-grandchildren, Alexandra Tasich and Tucker Tasich, both of Bargersville, and Lydia Cope and Jackson Cope, both of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in passing by her parents; husbands, Jim and Lester; and brothers, Eugene, Jack and Joe Barnett.

She was a 1941 graduate of Nineveh High School and a graduate of Consolidated Business College.

Marie was employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indianapolis for several years, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of Nineveh Christian Church and the Franklin Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 439. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Rev. Charles Stanley will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Tuesday following an Eastern Star service conducted by the Franklin Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31) in Franklin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
