Joe Pike moved from Maine with the rest of the family in the fall of 1865 settling in Green Lake County, Wisconsin near Markesan. In his early adult years, Joe moved to Mitchell County Iowa near Orchard, where he met Elizabeth Ann Bradshaw. They married in Charles City, Iowa and ultimately moved to a farm just south of Brownsdale, Minnesota around 1910 where he farmed until he retired. The farm remains in the Pike family as of 2009, first with Verne, then his son Joseph Ira Pike, and currently with Joe's son, Dan Pike.
Lizzy and Joe had 5 children: Geneva Harriet (Mrs. Lewis Stritsky), Wilfred Henry, Cora Lavina (Mrs. Edward Gerke), Della May (Mrs. Stanley Armstrong), and Verne Clement.
After Lizzy's death in 1939, Joe traveled extensively around the country visiting his sons, daughters, and other relatives. He remained very active until his 95th year when his health began to fail. He died in California at a ripe old age of 96. His body was flown back to Minnesota for burial next to Lizzy. It was the only time he ever flew.
Interesting to note Joe's original grave marker showed his birth year as 1865. Someone paid to have it corrected (maybe son Wilfred?) to the correct 1855, which is noticeable on the marker.
