President of Soochow University and missionary for the American Southern Methodist Episcopal Mission.

Son of James Harkins Anderson, co-founder of The Daily Constitution [today the Atlanta Journal Constitution] and Mary Margaret (Adams) Anderson.

He attended what is now Washington and Lee University, during the presidency of Robert E. Lee.

Married Mary Garland Thompson on Dec. 31, 1879.

Together they sailed for China in 1882.

Father of David Lawrence Jr., Mary Adams Anderson [1887-8], Roy Scott Anderson, Cecil Park Anderson, and James Harkins Anderson [1881-1970].

Buried in the Mission Lot of Paosenjao Cemetery[sic].
