Revolutionary War Soldier. Clothier. Inventor. He was the inventor of a machine for shearing cloth in the manufacture of woolen goods. The official patent described his invention this way: "Power is applied to a crank, from whence the operation is given by means of a Strap or Pitman..." The patent is signed "G:o Washington" as President and "Edm:[und] Randolph" as Secretary of State, and "W[illia]m Bradford" as Attorney General; Philadelphia, January 31, 1795. A descendant of William Bradford, Mayflower pilgrim and governor of Plymouth Colony, Kellogg married Sarah Rogers with whom he had seven children: Clarissa, Susannah, Leverett, Anna, Cynthia, Timothy and Elvira. After the death of Sarah, he married Ruth, Sarah's sister.
