Early Life: Joe was born November 12, 1935, in Springville, Utah, to Frank Herbert and Margaret Blanche Chapple Gabbitas. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: On January 8, 1958, Joe married the love of his life, Janice Craig; they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 3, 1963. He was devoted to Church and country and honorably served both. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joe served numerous callings in his ward and stake, 13 years in the Provo Utah Temple, and over 40 years in the Scouting program. Joe was a loyal employee of Geneva Steel for 32 years and was a loving grandfather to his 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Joe was known for his love of children and was never without a piece of candy to share giving him the nickname, "The Candy Man." Joe Herbert Gabbitas, of Provo, Utah passed away peacefully in his home on August 6, 2013. He was 77.
Survived By: His wife, Janice; children: Diana Milne (Mark), Joan Johnson (Fred), Joyce Weight (Tad), Ron Gabbitas (Meredith); and sister, Pat Harmer (Albert).
Predeceased By: His parents, sister, Peggy Wiscombe; brother, Rex Gabbitas; and great granddaughter, Tylee Kay Weight.
