Walter Moden
(1954-2013)
Walter L. Moden, a resident of Klamath Falls, died Aug. 1, 2013, at the age of 59.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the LDS Stake Center. Visitation will be in the Relief Society Room at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens. O'Hair Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Walt was born June 19, 1954, in Sonoma, Calif. While growing up, he loved to fish with his brothers and sister, grabbing fish right out of the river. When he was older, he worked summers for the carnival and picked grapes to support his family.
At age 19, he moved his family to Hoopa, Calif., where he worked in the masonite mill and rented a three-bedroom home for his mom and siblings to join him. When the mill closed, he moved to Klamath Falls in 1976 and worked at Gregory Timber Resources as a barker operator.
In 1981, he met Donna Rookstool and shortly thereafter they were married. They lived on a small farm on Spring Lake Road. Walt and Donna loved gardening and always had a huge garden. He was always very interested in science, so he went back to school and studied lasers at Oregon Institute of Technology. When he finished his studies, he went into real estate and operated a real estate company with Donna. Until his death, he continued that career with his partners Jack Rookstool and Darren Brookshire.
Walt was particularly devoted to the LDS Church and served in the temple for many years.
Among his other interests were flying, swimming, motorcycles, fixing things, playing guitar, politics, and feeding too much candy to his grandchildren.
When his wife became ill, he totally devoted himself to her care. Donna preceded him in death in 2009.
Survivors include his brothers, Paul McConnell of Klamath Falls and Douglas McConnell; sister Cindy Ibarra of Klamath Falls; step-children Lezlie Bricco and her husband Terry of Jordan, Utah, Chris Rookstool, and Jack Rookstool of Klamath Falls; 18 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and 17 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff McConnell and step-daughter, Jeanne Rookstool.
