Rig contractor killed in fall from oil derrick. B. F. Hicks, loses balance and falls forty feet Saturday, never regained consciousness.
Benjamin Franklin Hicks, 52, a rig builder and contractor, was fatally injured last Saturday, when he was fatally injured in a fall from a rig on which he was working.
The accident occurred about two and half miles northeast of Holdenville. Mr. Hicks had been contracting rigs in the local oil fields for the past six months, coming here from Wichita, Kansas.
The morning of the accident, he with others were building a rig, working some forty feet above the ground. He stepped out on a long board and one of the workmen gave the other end of the board a shove to move it out of his way. This caused Mr. Hicks to lose his balance and he fell to the ground.
He was unconscious when picked up and brought to town about 3:00 o'clock.
Funeral services were held at the Holdenville cemetery, conducted by Rev. J. E. Kirk and the Baptist church Monday afternoon.
The deceased is survived by the widow, Mrs. Mary Hicks, two grown sons, Earl and James.
The young men will continue in the fathers' profession contracting business in the oil field here.
