ALDRED.At Front Royal, Va., on Friday, August 8th, 1862, from congestion of the brain, WILLIAM R. ALDRED, Adjutant of the Third Regiment of Delaware Volunteers, aged 34 years, 4 months and 2 days,

WILLIAM ROBINSON ALDBED, was born in Brandywine Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, April 6th, 1828. graduated
with distinction, at Dickinson College, in 1856. In 1859, he received the degree of Master of Arts.

Aged 34 years and 4 months.

William R. Aldred was the oldest of the ten children of Thomas Jefferson and Hannah Bonsall(Fisher) Aldred. He graduated from Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA.) and in 1848 was teaching school in Millerport, Ohio. Returning east, William R. Aldred conducted his own private school or academy. One of his students was his sister Hannah Mary "Mollie" Aldred, a graduate of Wilmington High School. He enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War, serving with Company A, 3rd Regiment, Delaware Volunteers, where he became a 1st Lieutenant. His younger brother, Thomas Cooper Aldred, served in the same group as a 2nd Lieutenant. While the younger brother was wounded and honorably discharged, William R. died in Front Royal, Virginia of exposure to heat.
He was married to Eliza Hammersley, and had one son, William Aldred, who eventually became president of the First National Bank of Milford, Delaware and the owner/developer of Slaughter Beach.
