He was born January 4, 1935 to Louis W. and Marie Ely. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1953, graduated from East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas in 1958 and attended Golden Gate Seminary in California and Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
He was a licensed and ordained Baptist minister and a deacon at First Baptist Church in Montgomery. He was an Adult Bible teacher at First Baptist for many years.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 45 years, Pat; daughter, Cindy Fore, and husband Kyle from Conroe, Texas; son David Ely, from Houston, Texas; daughter, Pam McKee, and husband Ken from Montgomery, Texas.
Six grandchildren: Jason Ely, Amber Ely, Kelsey Fore, Kailee Fore, Shelbee Montgomery, and Joshua Ely.
Mother-in-law, Cleo Dean from Montgomery, Texas, Aunt, Edith Knox from New Braunfels, Texas, two sisters, Barbara Owens from Pasadena, Texas, Carole Dillow and husband Eddie, from Pasadena, Texas.
Many other extended family members also survive.
Viewing will be held from 6PM until 9PM, Thursday, July 14, 2005 in the Chapel of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Montgomery, Texas. Services will be held July 15, 2005 at 4 PM at the First Baptist Church in Montgomery, Texas. Interment will be held at Copeland Chapel Cemetery, Montgomery, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions made to First Baptist Church in Montgomery.
