Leila Chester Jones, 100, died Sunday night (August 4, 2013) at Waycross Health and Rehab following a brief illness.
She was a native of Blackshear, a former resident of Douglas for 20 years, but had lived most of her life in Ware County. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James David Chester and her second husband, Troy A. Jones. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William L. Sweat and Mattie Altman Sweat and her son, Bill Chester.
She retired as Information Desk Receptionist with Satilla Regional Medical Center in 1988 after 20 years of service. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Waycross and a former member of Crawford Street Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Waycross Health and Rehabilitation, and to Hospice Satilla for all of the love and care shown to Mrs. Jones.
Survivors include a daughter, Beth Spaulding (husband John) of Waycross; 5 grandchildren, Elaine O'Neal of Atlanta, Lisa Deal Smith (husband Harold) of Waycross, Lori Deal Dixon (husband Derrell) of Blackshear, Nancy Bowman (husband Zack) of Waycross, and John Jacob Spaulding of Waycross; 7 great grandchildren, Allison Mitchell of Atlanta, James David Burke of Brunswick, Jeana Nicole Burke of Charleston SC, Cristen Elise Mimbs of Waycross, Justin Derrell Dixon and Brian Keith Dixon both of Blackshear, and Katherine Bowman of Waycross; 5 great great grandchildren; a daughter in law, Elizabeth Chester of Atlanta; a brother Bill Sweat (wife Marie) of Waycross. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives including a special niece Susan Cason (husband Ben) of Waycross.
