A Catholic blessing service will be held Monday for Rose Verch, who died suddenly Thursday at a local hospital. She was 78.

A native of Santa Cruz, she was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Holy Cross High School and was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Druids.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Verch, of Santa Cruz; her son, Don Verch, of Aptos; her daughter, Barbara Foster, of Scotts Valley; her brothers, Andrew Pucci, of Antioch, and Giuseppe Rossi, of Italy; her sister, Isdia Malaspina, of Stockton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A vigil service will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at Norman's Family Chapel, 3620 Soquel Drive, Soquel. Friends may call at the chapel Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon until the service.

A funeral procession will leave the chapel Monday at 9:30 a.m. to proceed to Holy Cross Mausoleum, where a Catholic blessing service will begin at 10 a.m. Interment in Holy Cross Mausoleum will follow.

Contributions to the Holy Cross Church Restoration Fund, 126 High St., Santa Cruz, Calif. 95060, or the American Diabetes Association, 147 S. River St., Santa Cruz, Calif. 95060, are preferred.
