Franklin Delano Black, 67, husband of Barbara Johnson Black of 998 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, died Sunday Nov. 21, 2004, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Black was born in Union, Sept. 4, 1937, a son of the late Samuel Ross and Belle Knox Black. He was retired after 21 years with the U.S. Air Force having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Black was also employed with Smith Lumber Co. and Unlimited Construction Co. of Union. He attended UNLV and was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Mr. Black was also a member of the Union Elks Club, the American Legion and the Young At Heart Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Carla P. Meredith of Clover; three sons, and daughters-in-law, Derek and Jonell Black of Clinton, James R. and Tami Fowler of Woodruff, Robbie and Paula Howell of Duncan; five sisters, Susie Palmer of Union, Nancy Black, Betty Thompson, Helen Meredith and Elizabeth L. Black, all of Chester; a grandson, Shane Black of Clinton; four granddaughters, Anna, Brooklyn and Rebecca Howell, all of Duncan and Alana Fowler of Woodruff; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Black was predeceased by three brothers, James, Robert, and William Black and a sister, O'Nell Dover.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Fairforest Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert and the Rev. Joseph Stover. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military rites.
The following are asked to assemble at the church Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Trip Sheorn, Jerry Harris, Jimmy Harris, Dennis Davis, Chad Vinson, Bob Gist, Willie Harris, Ricky Harris, Paul Peahuff, Louis Jordan Sr., Louis Jordan Jr., and employees of Ace Hardware; Linda Davis, Roy Puckett, L.J. Chaney and W.J. Scales.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service. Memorials may be made to the Fairforest Baptist Church, 1917 Jonesville Highway, Union, S.C. 29379. The family is at the home, 998 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union.
