Irma Lee Block Pickett, 87, passed away in Houston on July 29, 2013. She was born in Yorktown, Texas on August 1, 1925, one of eight children of Albert and Margaret Block. Her family dates back to the American Revolution and the Old Three Hundred, traveling to Texas with Steven F Austin. She graduated from Sharyland High School in McAllen, as salutatorian. She was married to Johnny Ray Pickett for 69 years, living in San Antonio close to 60 years. She retired from Western Union Telegraph after 25 years and worked at the San Antonio Aggie Park. She was a longtime member of Laurel Heights United Methodist Church. She is survived: by her son Bill, daughter-in-law Debra, granddaughter Amanda, husband Jamie, and great-grandson Justin, grandson Scott, wife Daniela, brother Raymond, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church, San Antonio, on Thursday, August 8, 1000. A private graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the San Antonio A&M Club Foundation Endowment Fund, 6205 West Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78213 or Laurel Heights United Methodist Church, 227 W Woodlawn Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212.
