Gwendolyn I. Gray, 79, passed away at her home in Watertown on Saturday morning, April 9, 2011.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 13, at 2PM at Brookside Cemetery with Rev. Walter E. Giles officiating. The family will receive friends at the Ramada Inn from 3-5 PM after the graveside service.
Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.
Mrs. Gray was born in Denmark, NY on March 8, 1932, the daughter of Marcus and Bertha Salisbury Switzer. The family moved to Alexandria Bay where she graduated from high school.
On June 9, 1953 she married John E. Gray in Chapel 1 at Ft. Drum.
She had enjoyed being a waitress, working at Dorr-Fitz Restaurant, Clayton, Hardy's Tea Room, Burrville, and as a hostess at Howard Johnson's, Watertown. She was a homemaker and carried her real estate license, working with her husband at John E. Gray Real Estate, Watertown.
She also enjoyed watching baseball and hockey with her children and grandchildren, and traveling. She was a former member of Four River Valleys' Historical Society.
Besides her husband, John E. Gray, Sr., she is survived by her son and wife, Bradley S. and Diana, and her daughter and husband, Sheila M. and Harry R. Wilson, all of Watertown; her daughter-in-law, Tiffany L. Gray, FL; five grandchildren, Harry R. and Lorraine Wilson, Bryan J. and Brianna Wilson, Tyler L., Sydney A., and Zander J. Gray; four great grandchildren, Brandon D., Megan M., Jenna M., and Kayla R. Wilson; her brother and wife, John and Trudy Switzer, Dexter, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her son, John E. Gray, Jr., died July 19, 2000, and her two brothers, Gerald and Lloyd Switzer, and her three sisters, Marjorie Clark, Dellerine Grey, and Thelma Angel, also predeceased her.
Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Jefferson County, 425 Washington St., Watertown, NY 13601.
