He was born September 28, 1914 at Red Star, in Madison County, Arkansas, the son of Ira David and Tilitha (Ward) Samuels.
Interment was at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

NOTES:
In the spring of 1941, the communuty had a fairwell dinner for Carl. The next day he walked the 20 miles from Red Star to Kingston to catch the Army bus. He was taken to Fort Smith, where he passed all the tests and was sent directly to Honolulu, Hawaii. He wrote home about butchering hogs and putting out gardens and said he was so very homesick. He was wounded on Luzon. He was killed in action (KIA) May 1, 1945 on Okinawa.

ONE NEWTON COUNTIAN BEING RETURNED FOR RE-BURIAL
Remains of 5,806 Americans who lost their lives during World War II have been returned from the Pacific area aboard the Army transport Dalton Victory.
They were interred in temporary military cemeteries on Iwo Jima, Tinian, Guam, Saipan and Hawaii.
They included 79 Arkansans, one of whom was from Newton County.
His rank, name, service, nest of kin:
Pfc. Carl Samuels, Army; Ira D. Samuels, Red Star.
