GOSS, Lane Woodworth "Woody" 83, of North Andover, MA died Friday, May 6, 2016 of complications from multiple myeloma. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Walcott) Douthat Goss, who died in 2007. Members of his family include sons, Edward Woodworth Goss and wife Christine of Wellesley, Charles Lane Goss II and wife Beth Carroll Goss of Madbury, NH, Philip Johnston Goss of North Andover, and grandchildren William, Elizabeth Jane, Sarah, and Edward, Jr. of Wellesley and Katharine Goss of New York. He was also predeceased by his sister, Georgia Goss Drew, her husband Frederick E. Drew, and her children David Goss McCaig and Holly Armitage. In addition, Mr. Goss leaves many beloved Woodworth, Douthat, and Walcott cousins in New England, Virginia, and across the country. Mr. Goss was a commercial banker for 35 years. He began his career in 1960 at Chemical Bank in New York and then spent 16 years in Worcester, MA as Vice President at Mechanics National Bank (Multibank). He later moved to Arlington Trust in Lawrence, MA and Union National Bank in Lowell, MA. From 1980 to his 1995 retirement Mr. Goss was a Vice President at State Street Bank in Boston. Throughout his life, he was a Trustee for a wide variety of charities, including Worcester Children's Friend Society and The Worcester Home for Aged Women. Mr. Goss was a past Director of Washington Mills Abrasive Company, as well as a past Trustee of the Worcester Science Center and Bancroft School. In recent years he was a Trustee of Historic Deerfield, past President of The Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati, and an elected Member of the American Antiquarian Society. Mr. Goss was also a former 1955 Dartmouth College Class President and longtime Dartmouth College Fund Chair. He and his wife Nancy shared a passion for art, music, history, antiques, and the preservation of historic properties. Mr. Goss was also a strong supporter of Dartmouth College and the memory of America's founders. Mr. Goss was born in 1933 in Worcester, MA, the son of Charles Lane and Constance (Woodworth) Goss. He attended Worcester public schools, Bancroft, and graduated from Worcester Academy in 1951. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1955 and The Darden School at the University of Virginia in 1960. Mr. Goss served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and the U.S. Army Reserves until 1962. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Dover, NH, on June 4th at 10am conducted by his childhood friend Rev. Marshall Hunt. Burial will be private.
