Bonham J. Sparks, Jr. "Sparky"
Bonham J. Sparks, Jr., 83, long-time resident of Lynnwood, passed away at his home on Jan. 1, 2005, after a brief struggle with cancer. He was born on Dec. 23, 1921, in Victoria, Texas, to Bonham J. and Alma H. Sparks.
Sparky joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and met his bride-to-be, Delores Meisner of Racine, Wisconsin, while stationed at Radio Operator's School in Chicago. After completing his service to our country at Foster Field, Texas, Sparky and Delores moved to Yakima where he worked as an Operating Engineer and they began to raise a family. In 1959, the family moved to Lynnwood where Sparky founded and operated Spartan Construction Co., Inc., for 25 years.
Sparky's greatest joy was his family and friends. He loved to frequent the local cafes for breakfast and was a fixture in the evenings at the Meadowdale Playfields softball complex. He also loved genealogy and meeting and visiting with new found relations. He was a man of his word.
Sparky is survived by his loving wife, Delores, to whom he was married 60 years; daughters, Sandy (Mike) Fox, Barbara (Pete) Spofford and Cheryl (Tom) Grimm; sons, Alan (Cathy) and Tom (Darcy); eight grandchildren, Michelle, Heather, Hillary, Jessica, Alexandra, Paul, Madeline, and Kyle; brothers, Kenneth of Pasadena, TX, Douglas of Jacksonville, FL, Neil of Pasco, WA; sister, Jacquelyn of Lynnwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eugene.
Sparky served in the Civilian Conservation Corps; was a member of Operating Engineers Local #302 for 60 years; belonged to the Sons of the Republic of Texas (Sam Houston Chapter); was a member of the Yakima Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite, Nile Temple (32nd degree); and was past-President of the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society.
