Susannah West was born to Elder Thomas West and his wife Amie Colegrove West on June 3, 1756 in Hopkinton, Washington County, Rhode Island. The West family goes back to Francis West who married Susannah Soule, daughter of George, who came to America on the Mayflower. Susannah married Nathan Tanner October 19, 1775 and they had 2 boys who both died young. Nathan, who was a blacksmith, made a bet, that he could carry the greatest weight. He picked up an anvil and carried it across the the shop, in doing so he burst a blood vessel and bled to death.
Susannah Married Nathan Porter on June 26, 1785. They shortly moved to Brimfield, Massachusetts where their four children were born, Joseph, Susannah, Sanford and Sally. About 1794 Susannah’s father asked her to come to Vershire, Vermont to help him, so they all moved up there. For this help and for other reasons Elder Thomas West deeded the property to Susannah’s 2 boys, Joseph and Sanford. Though Sanford moved out west, Joseph stayed and helped his mother. Nathan Porter died in 1817 and Susannah married Biley Hardie sometime after that and they lived in Strafford, Vermont. Biley died in 1839 and Susannah lived with her son Joseph until her death on August 20, 1840.
Joseph married Persis Norton, they are both buried next to Susannah. Susannah married Abner Currier and they moved to Erie County, New York. Sanford married Nancy Warriner and they moved to Utah. Sally married Philo Richardson and they also moved to Erie county, New York.
