John was a volunteer Munition Worker during the Great War, WW1.
He volunteered as a Carpenter / Joiner / Ships Cabin Fitter.

He left Australia on 7 Nov 1917 on board the "Demosthenes" and arrived in England on 31 Dec 1917.
On arrival in England he was unwell and diagnosed with Bronchitis and Valvular Heart Disease. He never commenced work.
