Her homeplace on family land, a tract known as Briarwood, is now a nature preserve used by conservationists and horticulturists from around the world as a result of her diligence to collect and replace her favorite native plants. Briarwood is located in the sandy hills of Natchitoches Parish on Louisiana Highway 9 between Saline and Campti.
She is also responsible for the preservation of her grandfather Benjamin Sweat's homestead in Bienville Parish on the Briarwood tract.
