MRS. CLARA PLATO [sic] OLD RESIDENT OF THIS SECTION, DIES
In the passing of Mrs. Clara B. Platto at the home of her daughter, on East Seneca Street last Thursday morning, August fourth, Manilus loses a resident who has been identified with the life of this section since childhood. She was born on February 24, 1853 just east of Cazenovia village, one of three children in the family of Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Woodard. In July 1872 she was married to Charles A Chappell and lived at the old homestead on the Ridge Road, Cazenovia, until the death of her husband in January, 1890. Of this union three children were born, Lena C., John F., and C. Homer, all of whom are at present residents of Manlius. After the death of Mr. Chappel [sic] she moved to Cazenovia where the family lived until 1901. In this year they moved to Manlius.
Mrs. Plato married Mr. Frederick Platto, of Brewerton, in 1910, living there until his death four years later. She had made her home with her son and daughter in Manlius since 1914.
She was buried in the family lot at Cazenovia cemetery last Saturday. The great profusion of beautiful flowers sent to the home on East Seneca Street revealed the love and esteem in which Mrs. Platto was held by her many friends in the community. She had been in poor health for three years and passed away at the age of 74. Mrs. Platto was a member of the Manlius Baptist Church for many years and also of the Manlius chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
Besides her daughter and two sons she is mourned by three grand-children and two great-grandchildren, all living in Manlius.
