He was born Jan. 29, 1948, at rural Walnut a son of Carl Carlson and Angela M. Baer. He was later adopted by Claude and Gertrude (Peak) Baer. He was raised at Walnut and attended school there.
During the Vietnam War he served in the United States Army. He worked for saw mills and construction companies.
Survivors include four stepchildren, John Dowling, Michael Dowling, Cathy Jackson, all of Girard, and Cheryl Lance of Pittsburg; nine stepgrandchildren; and four brothers, Chris Hill of Girard, Philip Dykes of Parsons, Chet Massoth of Carthage, Mo., and Carl Robert Carlson of Springfield, Mo.; and two sisters, Carla Carlson of Springfield, Mo., and Melody DePoy of Bartlesville, Okla.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Christina Carlson.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Girard. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
