Betty Kathryn (Ashby) Wood, 88, Plainfield, passed away at 6:12 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013 at Meadow Lakes in Mooresville.
She was born on Sunday, January 25, 1925 in Gary, Indiana, to the late Riley J. and Hester (Dunn) Ashby.
Betty was a 1943 graduate of Emerson High School in Gary, Indiana. She had worked as a receptionist for a medical office and later at a daycare. She retired from the clerk/treasurer's office for the City of Hobart, Indiana. She was a member of the Plainfield Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Wood, Jr. and wife Paula of Martinsville and Robert Wood and wife Theresa of Salem, Kentucky; daughter, Nancy Burris and husband Lance of Plainfield; grandchildren, Jeff Wood, Julie Presley, Brad Burris, Brian Burris, Carie Markus and Joe Wood; great grandchildren, Savannah, Mya Rose, Dylan, Dane and Lakin.
Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Wood, Sr., whom she married on March 25, 1946 and he passed away on January 5, 1988; brothers, Harry Ashby and Robert Ashby.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the Plainfield Baptist Church, 1575 Reeves Road, Plainfield, Indiana, with Dr. Mike Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service.
Burial will be 3:00 p.m. Central Time on Thursday at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Hobart, Indiana.
