A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 29th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tower City with Reverend Cathy Hedmark officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday morning. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, ND.
Catherine Anna Grejtak, the daughter of John and Anna Grejtak, was born May 12, 1932 in Pine City, MN. Cathy grew up on a farm in rural Pine City, and graduated from Pine City High School in 1950.
She worked for a time after high school for a bank in Minneapolis, MN, where she met her future husband, Gordon Gubrud. The couple was united in marriage on June 15, 1953 in Minneapolis, MN. Cathy and Gordon then moved to the Tower City, ND area where they raised their four children. Some of their favorite pastimes were visiting and dancing. Cathy and Gordon retired and moved into Tower City in 1996. Gordon passed away on January 7, 1999.
Cathy thoroughly enjoyed her senior citizen friends and meetings, homemaker's club, bingo with friends and an occasional trip to the casino. Cathy's family was the most important part of her life. She loved cooking for her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved gardening, as well as taking care of her lawn and flowers.
Cathy is survived by her loving family, Guy (Wanda) Gubrud, Colleen (John) Clancy, all Tower City, ND, Mark (Carmen) Gubrud, Buffalo, ND and Gloria (Jayme) Welsh, Champlin, MN; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Grejtak, Menomonee Falls, WI and Evelyn Stenerson, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Raemi, Rochel, and George Gubrud, Nathan (Randi) Pederson, Kirk Besette, Lance Besette, Travis (Darcie) Besette, Jennifer (Mike) Eggebrecht, Brian Gubrud, Andrew Gubrud and Calvin Welsh; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Hallie and Kaida.
Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, Mary, Regina and Margaret and three brothers, Frank, J.L. (Loddy) and Tony.
