John Robert Phibbons was the son of Early Manton Phibbons and Ethel Elizabeth Phibbons. He was married for 50 years to first wife Jessie Hay and second to Doris Cramer Shepherd.

On the 1930 Dist. 1, Anne Arundel Co., MD census, I found farmer and widower Earley M Phibbons, 56; daughter Catherine A Phibbons, 21; son and laborer John Phibbons, 18; son Earley M Phibbons, Jr., 16 and aunt widowed Anne R Hardesty, 82, all MD born.

On the 1940 Anne Arundel Co., MD census, I found his widowed father Early Phibbons, 67, residing with his daughter Katherine Wayson, 31 and son in law, Earle Wayson, 34, all MD born. No sign of John above.

John Robert Phibbons, 89, a resident of Harwood for 13 years and formerly of Lothian, died of congestive heart failure May 14 at home after a lengthy illness.

Born and in Lothian, Mr. Phibbons attended Southern High School when it was at Tracys. After a lifetime of farming, he retired in 1999.

He also raised and transported livestock to market for other farmers from various counties in Maryland.

He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Lothian and the Anne Arundel County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Doris Cramer Shepherd Phibbons; his stepson, Ernest Shepherd III of Lothian; one daughter, Johnnie Ann Franklin of Lothian; three stepdaughters, Jean Krebs of Lothian, Jane Bishop of Harwood and Nancy Hill of Annapolis; three grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Mr. Phibbons was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jessie Hays Phibbons, who died in 1986; two brothers, Earley W. and Woodrow Phibbons; and his sister Kathryn Wayson Hutchins.

Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 905 Galesville Road in Galesville. A funeral sevice will be held at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Lothian. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 122 Bayard Road, Lothian, MD 20711 or Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville MD 21108. The Capital (Annapolis), dated 15 May 2000,
