Lewis Richard Hovey, son of Benjamin L Hovey and Mae Sophia Peaslee, daughter of Richard and Susan (Davis) Peaslee.

Born in Haverhill, Mass., May 17, 1874. He lived in Haverhill and Groveland in childhood, being educated in the public schools of Haverhill, except for two years in the Groveland high school. He was president of his class (1893) in the Haverhill high school.
Mr. Hovey married Helen Cleveland, daughter of Dr.
Laurance Sumner and Abbie A. (Eldridge) Smith of Haverhill April 19, 1899. He spent the summer of 1893 at the World's Columbian exposition in Chicago in charge of the shoe and leather exhibits.


In 1912 he was appointed by Governor Foss a member of the Merrimack Valley Waterway Board and helped to develop a plan for a deep-water channel in the Merrimack river. He has been secretary of the Daniel Hovey Association from its founding and had direct charge of printing this book (published 1914).
