Viola B. Blackman, 93, wife of the late Earl Blackman, died on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Lutheran Home in Southbury. Mrs. Blackman was born in New York City on November 23, 1919, daughter of Alfonse & Matilda Hermansdorfer. She moved to Connecticut when she was 12 and attended Norwalk schools. She and her husband built a house and raised their 3 children in Redding, CT. After Earl's death in 1971, Vi moved to New Fairfield to be near her children and grandchildren. In 2006 she moved to Southbury. Viola worked at Ullman Devices in Ridgefield for over 40 years retiring when she was 82. Always independent and full of life, she loved spending time with her family, the joy of her life. Viola is survived by her daughter Patti Colbert (Stephane), Barbara Curtis (Gary), daughter-in-law Suzanne Blackman, her five grandchildren, John Wolf, Cheryl Dreyer, Paul Curtis, Chris & Tom Blackman, her six great-grandchildren, Nick & Lauren Dreyer, Jack & James Wolf, and Megan, Valerie, Christopher & Ethan Blackman, along with many dear nieces & nephews. She is predeceased by her son Edward Blackman and her siblings Alfred, Herb, Ruth, Doris & Irene. A special thanks to caregivers Sue and Reenie. Also, to the staff at the LHS, your compassion & support over the last few months has helped so much. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, July 31, at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk, CT.
