Funeral Services For Mrs. Barnette Were Thursday
Funeral services for Mrs. J. R. Barnette were held in the First Presbyterian Church at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Bill Barker and Dr. Charles S. Poling officiating. Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery with members of Eastern Star conducting the graveside rites.
Mrs. Barnette, the former Minnie Allen, died at 11 p.m. Sunday evening in her home here.
She had been confined to her bed for the past four years following a fall in which she received a broken hip. She had also lost most of her sight four years ago and was totally blind.
Mrs. Barnette was born in Wimer, Texas, September 1, 1867. She moved to Arizona in 1894, living first at Safford, then in Miami and Chandler- before coming to Wickenburg in 1917. When she lived in Miami, the town had not yet been founded.
She was a charter member of the Hassayampa Chapter of Eastern Star here.
She and Mr. Barnette were married February 27, 1895, in Safford, Ariz.
Surviving are the husband and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Nelle Heuloth, Wickenburg; Lee Barnette, Bishop, Calif.; J. Wayland Barnette, Lafayette, Calif.; Foy Barnette, Santa Maria River, Ariz.; Mrs. Ethel Johnson, Tucson; and Mrs. Alice Whadford, Hotchkiss, Colo. Another son, Raleigh Barnette, died in October, 1951. Mrs. Barnette also had a foster daughter, Mrs. Ivy Woolery of Pine, Ariz. Seventeen grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers were three sons, Wayland, Lee and Foy Barnette; two sons-in-laws, Oliver Heuloth and Harold Johnson, and three grandsons, Joe, Donald and Harold Johnson, Jr.
