Salt Lake City/Bicknell, Utah - Winona Smith Baker, age 81, died June 27, 2005 at her home in Salt Lake City, after a short, but valiant battle with cancer.
She was born March 30, 1924 in Torrey, Utah, a daughter of Arvil "Bus" and Gladys Rebecca Ridgway Smith.

Winona graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1942. She married Gail J. Baker, March 22, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She loved working as a secretary at Ft. Douglas during World War II.

She was a member of the LDS Church, where she taught Primary and was a councilor in the MIA. She was a member of the DUP, PTA, and Secretary to Samak Association.

Winona loved her family. She loved genealogy, her grandkids, and two card playing groups. Along with her husband, Gail, started the first Dry Cleaners in Bicknell.

She is survived by her husband, Gail J. Baker of Salt Lake City; her children: Carol B. and Keith Moosman of Sandy; Robert Blaine and Krista Baker of Salt Lake City; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Pat A. Smith.

According to Winona's wished, only a grave side service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2005 in the Bicknell Cemetery, Bicknell, Utah, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
