Joseph "Joe" Irving was the son of Frederick Irving and Nannie Hildebrand; he had one brother: William Irving b. abt 1856 d. 1898. He had the following half siblings (father: George Lovett): Louisa Amanda and Annie who both married Houston D'Armond; John Lovett, David Lovett, and James Lovett; (father Charles Poe): Brice and Jennie Poe.

Joseph married (1) Minnie Louisa See Irving (buried at South Bethel Cem); they had the following children: Mabel b. 1890, and Watie Irving b. Sep 06, 1891.
