Henry B. Hoover died at Aurora Springs, Mo., June 24th 1913, at the advanced age of 92 years, 6 months and one day. He was a native of Stark County, Ohio, born December 23, 1820.

When a young man, Mr. Hoover moved to Iowa where he worked at the blacksmith trade for awhile. He was twice married. He had two sons and one daughter by his first wife. Both the sons died some time ago. His daughter, Mrs. Mary J. Stalcup, survives him. She is a widow living in Illinois.

By reference to Mr. Hoover's war record, I find that on Oct. 1, 1861 he enlisted in Co. D. , 15th Reg. Iowa Infantry. At Vicksburg, Miss. He was discharged Dec. 5, 1863 for the purpose of enlisting in another company which he did the same day he was discharged. After his second enlistment he served as a second Corporal. His second discharge is dated Louisville, Ky. July 24, 1865. He served 3 years, 5 months and 23 days.

For several years previous to his death Mr. Hoover lived at Aurora Springs with his grandson, Henry Stalcup who is well known in this community.

Religiously Mr. Hoover held with the German Lutheran Church. He was a mild, quiet, unassuming old man. Always cheerful, genteel and sociable but a little reserved in his manner. Though he was totally blind for several years and though he suffered a great deal from chronic troubles, he was always patient and never complained.
