A Real American Hero.

Born Oct 17, 1887 in Ennice, Alleghany Cty NC.
Son of Martin Alexander Higgins and Jennie Bledsoe.
His ancestors came to Plymouth, Mass. in 1629.
His ancestors came south after several generations in Mass.
First to Pa. to Va. to NC.

His grandfather went to the CW and was killed before he could see his new baby. That baby was Carlisle's father
His father was a farmer, livestock dealer, VP of Bank of Sparta and Superintendent of Schools.

Carlisle started his education in a one room school near his home. At 14/15 he dropped out of school and was successful at raising and selling cattle and sheep.
His father then sent him to Bridal Creek Academy in Grayson Cty Va. Carlisle incorrectly reported his birth as 1889 instead of 1887 which lead to official documents being wrong during his lifetime.

He graduated from the Academy in 1908 and from University of NC at Chapel Hill in 1912. He received his law degree from Chapel Hill in 1914.
The University remained one of his enduring loves.
He loved basketball and football. He had played semi-pro baseball in Va. before college.

He joined Rufus A Doughton as a law firm
