OBITUARY OF MRS. CORA GARTON


Cora Margaret Adamson daughter of Thomas and Mary Ellen Adamson was born at Traer, Tama county, Ia., July 18, 1869. On April 1. 1871. the family moved to a farm nine miles southeast of LeMars where they lived until 1884 when they moved to LeMars.


On November 26, 1890, she was married to Charles Augustus Garton. To this union five children were born: Orrin Charles of Lincoln, Nebr., Eugene Thomas of Marathon, Edythe Eleanor, who passed away April 21, 1898, at the age of three years, Lawrence Lee who passed away Dec. 21, 1954, and Ralph LeRoy of Greenville, Ia.


They made their home in LeMars until 1900 when they moved to the farm southeast of LeMars, where she had grown to womanhood. In 1914 they moved to a farm northwest of Marathon where they lived until 1923 when they moved to the town of Marathon.


Mr. and Mrs. Garton celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Nov 26. 1952, and Mr. Garton passed away on Dec. 16, of that year.


Mrs. Garton was a good and faithful member of the Methodist church all her days and of the Amercan Legion auxiliary until after Mr. Garton's death.


On September 28, 1953, she fell and broke her hip. She was taken to the Buena Vista County hospital at Storm Lake and later moved to the Bappe Nursing Home at Sioux Rapids where she remained until she passed away July 27, 1956, at the age of 87 years and nine days.


She is survived by three sons, Orrin, Eugene and Ralph; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
