He served in Carle's Troop of Light Horse, in the Hunterdon Militia during the Revolutionary War; he later became a captain in the militia. He was co-executor of his father's estate in 1791. He purchased 260 acres, 1792. He was taxed in Hopewell Twp., 1780/85, and documented there 1801 (listed as a farmer) until his death. He was a constable, overseer of roads, etc.
