A native of San Mateo, he spent 21 years in electronics engineering in the Silicon Valley before health problems forced him into semi retirment. He was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan through 1946 as a dental technician. After the war, he moved back to the Bay Area and worked as grocery clerk, later becoming a grocery wholesaler, traveling throughout Northern California. In the early 1950s, he owned and operated a motel at Lake Tahoe. His main trade was as a electrical technician. Though he had no formal training, he designed many electrical devices. He was in great demand with several firms in the Silicon Valley. He later became very skilled a fishing, his favorite past time.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen R. Swint of Santa Cruz and Karen M. Gamble of Susanville; two sons, Stanley David Swint and Scott Swint, both of Santa Cruz; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at Norman's Family Chapel, 3620 Soquel Drive, Soquel. Committal will be private at Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz.
